At San Francisco UNESCO summit, a well-known peace activist John Mc Connell proposed the idea of naming the day to celebrate and analyze our progress towards the protection of biodiversity and the earth. UNESCO was founded to establish a world that cared about Education, Science, and Culture.

After World War2 we all realized how fragile and dangerous we are. Progress in technology also made us aware of real problems like environment protection, biodiversity loss, mass species extinction, ozone hole, greenhouse effects, carbon dioxide poisoning of the atmosphere, melting glaciers, deforestation, rising sea level, habitat loss, Population explosion, food and drinkable water shortages, fossil fuel replacement, etc. In this capitalist industrialized world, mankind and Environment are so close to becoming hostile to each other.
These problems are complex and require careful consideration to tackle these problems. But if someone is capable of solving these issues it’s mankind itself. I will definitely put my money on Mankind. This is also the theme of Earth day Where we take a resolution to Invest in Our Planet. The thing that helped us realizes these Environmental issues could also help us fix the issue too. Technology has that potential.
Earth Day Theme 2022
This year’s Earth Day theme was decided to be “invest in our planet”. It is our duty to do anything we can to contribute to the good cause of saving mother earth so we can save ourselves. A little bit of continuous effort goes long way. We can start by properly disposing of waste and recycling if we can. It could be a river or beach cleaning movement. If some of us are fortunate enough we can donate to “Invest in our planet”. I believe if everyone in their own way becomes kinder and generous then we may have a fighting chance. Business, Politics, Culture, religion, society, and any individual have the potential that they can Invest In our Planet.
