I think that was the first gender-neutral person I’d ever met. Once I understood my gender more, which was unassigned, then I understood my sexuality more. I was like, ‘Oh—that’s why I don’t feel straight and I don’t feel gay. It’s because I’m not.'”
Miley Cyrus, born Destiny Hope in 1992, was given her name by her parents Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus. Her father explained that they chose “Destiny Hope” because she believed in giving back to others. Due to her frequent smiles as a child, her family lovingly nicknamed her “Smiley,” which eventually evolved into “Miley.” In 2008, she officially changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus.
